Neo Backup is an open-source backup manager for Android devices, allowing users to make and restore backups of apps and their data. It supports both individual and batch backup and restore operations. System apps can also be restored without the need for a reboot.
The project was originally forked from OAndBackup and is now part of the Neo Applications suite. It has been fully rewritten with the aim to make it robust and add new features to ease the backup/restore workflow on any device.
Developed by the GitHub user NeoApplications, Neo Backup is licensed under the AGPL-3.0. It requires root access and is compatible with Android 8.0 or newer. The app is also available on F-Droid, a repository of free and open-source Android apps.
For users who value their data privacy, Neo Backup offers encryption for data backups with AES256, based on a user-set password. This ensures secure storage of backups, especially when combined with a user’s preferred sync solution like Syncthing or Nextcloud.
